Just out of interest what kind of rubber matting do you lot have? Im thinking about putting some down. Don't know whether to go for just the ones in the local coop. They look quite hard and not very comfy.

If anyone can recommend any links would be very much appreciated. Thank You!!!!

Thanks for the references guys! I have had a look at the Kraiburg site and they look great. I want to have a look at the Mayomats one too but can only find an American site???

I got mats recently from Easi fix outside ballinasloe. 6ft by 4 ft, 3/4 inch thick. Normally retail at €75 each but after 20 of my worst jokes i got 8 of them (6 for me a 2 for 2 friends dog pens) at €54 each and popped them in the horsebox.

I use a light sprinkle of shavings and bank up shavings for rolling. no probs at all and I'm saving 1.5 bales per week in the process (€15).

Im definitely going to do this. A friend of mine showed me his stables last night, he has sort of mattresses as opposed to mats. No need for bedding at all or a very little bit just for toileting on. All his horses lie down on them. They seem really comfy. Lovely and spongy to walk on.

Ooh I know those ones. Are they SoftStall..? Very expensive I think though aren't they?

Don't know the name. Causeway Coast stables supplied and installed them I think. Four stables done for €1200. Not bad when a pallet of bedding is 600. Have looked up a few different rubber mattress companies and all seem to be reasonably enough priced. Going to measure up this evening and get some quotes!!!

Found out toady that Causeway Coast dont do Soft Stall any more :-( Really disappointed cos I kind of had my heart set on it. Anyone know of any other Irish or UK companies that do a similar product??

I actually have 6 mats at home that I used for 2 stables that I was going to advertise on here!!

Not sure of the make but I used them for about 9ish months and loved them. Cut down on shavings alot. I got them initally just for Jack as hes quite messy in the stable and when he wee's theres just loads of it and the whole middle of the bed used to end up soaked and smelly. I used to just put a sprinkle of shavings down and then the banks and it was great. the urine used to just drain away. I then bought some for our other horse who was really clean in the stable.

Its great for their joints too as it stops them standing on cold concrete all day and they have something soft to lie on. Shavings always move and theres no 'give' in concrete like there is in the mats. There are hard but you can feel that they have some 'give' in them if you know what I mean...

Anyway if your interesed let me know!

That's an amazing quote!! I thought Softstall would be way more expensive. Our stables (13ft x 13 ft) cost 300 euro per stable for just normal heavy rubber mats. The Softstall are fixed to the ground and everything aren't they?

Yes they are. And way softer and thicker than normal mats. Totally waterproof too. My friend had them installed a few years ago so maybe that's why they were so cheap. I found another company who does Stable Comfort mats in the UK. They seem to be the same sort of thing. Just waiting on a quote at the minute.

I would be interested AshlingM if I only had a couple of stables to do. But I have nine and I think Id prefer to use the same stuff on all of them!
