I know some of you are interested in the progress of the code of practice for barefoot trimmers, so I stole this from the epauk forum, from Richard Vialls

The outcome is that we have a working group set up to develop a National Occupational Standard (NOS) for barefoot trimming. Some parts of the standard are likely to be common with the farriery NOS, some will be drawn from other professions (e.g. nutrition) and some will need to be developed from scratch. Interestingly, having common sections with the farriery NOS will likely mean that parts of the farriery NOS will need to be re-written - partly to make them non-specific to shoeing, but also partly because areas have been identified where the farriery NOS isn't of a high enough standard to meet what the barefoot groups want.

The barefoot groups present did a fantastic job of presenting a totally unified front on this - we made it very clear we're here to stay and that we are the ones pushing for standards to be set.

It looks like the working group will have 12 people on it, 6 from the various barefoot organisations and 6 from other organisations that have an interest such as the FRC, RPSCA, Lantra, etc.

I think this is about the best outcome we could have expected from this meeting. If all goes according to plan, this is going to make barefoot trimming far more recognised within a relatively short timescale.
