View Full Version : Car / Jeep
Hi there,
Just thought I'd chance my arm and see if anyone has or knows of anyone selling a car or jeep that would suitable for towing a horsebox... Looking for diesel, no more than 2.5L in a jeep or 2L car, in good condition and not too expensive.
Thanks

I'll keep an ear out. What sort of jeep are you interested in? Passenger or commercial?
How old roughly? There's no difference in running costs between commercial 2.5 or 3L jeep. Car (like passat) has better fuel economy but is less stable than a jeep towing a box. there's any amount of cars advertised in the buy & sell but bring a mechanic before you part with cash.
The person I bought my Landcruiser from might have something. I can text him if you have an idea what you're after.........
:)
Thanks Teezer, for a jeep it would have to be commercial... about about 02 i reckon but depends on the mileage i supppose... would prefer mileage to be less that 70K miles... but depends on price, I aint got a lot! for a car I was thinking along the lines of a passat alright, but ive never towed before so would like something sturdy to help me!

Have to admit I just wouldn't feel safe towing with a car!
I think a jeep would be the better option GJ3 :)

I got my SWB Commerical Landcruiser from a toyota dealer in Ashbourne, (yep I drove all the way from Athlone to see it).
They had a great selection of Jeeps back in March anyway. I love mine.

nosey q here for niamhy - do you use the LC for everything or just horsey stuff.. ie do you have a second car?? love the LC but imagine it'd be juice-guzzler for the daily stuff...?

Its a SWB LC, and I use it for everything. (And I live about 10 miles outside town, so I clock up a good bit of Mileage).
I dont find it too bad at all. I went from a 1 ltr Opel Corsa to a 2.8 Mitz Pajero to this. The LC is alot handier on juice than the Pajero I had (though I had an old Jap Import Pajero a 95, not a newer one).

And you didn't come visit me :sulking:
Thanks for tips everyone.. I am thinking a SWB 2l or 2.5l Diesel Pajero would suit me best. Preferably less that 10 years old and less that 4.5K... off to carzone.ie for me.. I would prefer to but off somebody that i know the history from though as I got stung with me last car and dont want it to happen again!
Go to the UK! I've just registered my shiny new Navara (well.. not new "new"... 01 reg) ..
Car (beautiful condition, good mileage, full Nissan service history, Carryboy canopy, satnav built in aeriel, Nokia Parrot Handsfree kit, climate control) was €2,200
Ferry & flights came to €180.00
Diesel for trip home from UK cost €70 (drove from near Scottish borders to Holyhead then back to Westmeath)
Re-registration was €510.00
So I have a lovely jeep that has never towed or been driven roughly (was a chelsea tractor!) for under €3k. I'll never buy a jeep here - they are ridiculously overpriced IMO.
ETA - it's a 2.5L Diesel.

happy jeep hunting, hope you find a good one, bring a local mechanic with you if you find one you think you'll buy. Worth every penny of €50 you might give him/her for checking it out. :)
PS. Toyota Landcruiser is also an excellent jeep with the same running costs as 2.5 Pajero. surf the jeep thread posted somewhere here, has loads of jeep info about good ones and problem ones.................
