Ok, so taking a break from doing my taxes (confusing!) to do a quick report. going to keep it to bullet point then come back later and add diagrams and explain the longer more technical parts i learned.
The main thing I came away with from the weekend was the idea of ride your horse not the arena. Sounds simple, sounds stupid almost, but a lot of what we are taught is the very opposite this is one of the tings i'll have to go into later as it needs diagrams and a long explanation.
The horses "buttons"
where does what with pressure (pressure even just being so much as increasing your own bodies energy through your core ie bellybutton area.) These apply to both ground work and ridden work. Basic but vital info.
Corner of mouth - Block / open turn
Shoulder - Lateral
Girth- Bending
Flanks - Forward motion
Hips - Hindquater yield
-Use the natural laws of horses. Push, block and draw. there is no pulling in the horse world
-Diagonal timing is critical to your horses balance. (more to do with diagonals coming later with diagrams-this section really opened my eyes and i think 99.9% of everyone else who was there) conscious awareness of where whip goes and timing of it.
-When long lining or lunging using the lower rings on surcingle to encourange horses head down out of inversion, use higher rings for horse that is working too low so therefore not really working at all (ie endorphine (sp??) junkies as he called them!)
-be a force to be reckoned with, but nothing to be afraid of
I really really enjoyed the weekend of lectures and came away with a lot of information. It took a long time to process it all, believe me i'm still waiting for some things to click in my brain! He is a wonderful teacher, makes things very clear cut. He very much sticks in the moment of what the horses present but gets through all he wants to teach at the same time. It makes things very understandable  I had the great pleaseure of having lunch with him both days, and he's a lovely lovely man. Very interesting life, and whoa you should hear about the arena he's just built back home in canada, drool!!
Will be back on later to talk about the main thing i learned at the clinic. And it's about the most simple of things!
back to taxes. le sigh.
