View Full Version : THE BEST travel boots

I want to know the best travel boots. Best being the best in protection.
My horse has skinny legs (boots often are too wide, so i get the cob instead of full size, but then the fetlock/hock ratio is not right, see piccie below).
Also - horse waves legs and dances around a lot. They need to be quick to get on so I don't think gamgee and bandage is an option for this horse,
Would love recommendations.
Am looking at Cals ones here but not heard of them before: http://www.chshowing.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=18_53&products_id=252
Thanks :)

Gratuitous shot of him making his "didn't i tell you i don't like the box" face.
The back boots don't fit great. Rhino boots, size cob.

A friend of mine has the Hoy travel boots and she prefers the Amigo ones!
I mainly use the Mark Todd ones on Ali and they're fantastic :) http://www.saddleupinternational.co.uk/mt_horseboots.asp
Sometimes I bandage up, but you said that wasn't an option.

I've got the Mark Todd ones too and they're great. Have had them years and they have really lasted.

I have the Bucas ones

I find them really good as Ispin has skinny legs too and they don't slip at all. She is also unable to kick them off!

I use Bucas too and heather is between sizes. On short journeys I usually use here tendon and fetlock boots only and if she is travelling with someone new on a short journey I will put the t ravelling boots over the tendon and fetlock boots just in c ase there is a bit of messing.

I like the way the velcro works on them. What size did you go for Karen?
RR sorry, what are the fetlock and hock boots? I think i've seen them on some site, might get the fetlock ones. Can they be bought in shops or only online? (would like to see them)
The MT ones look lovely - thanks Napoles and AB.

These are what we find to be the best boots. They are very expensive (I think they were 250 a set last time we bought them).
They are almost "armoured" and do not move. We had to wait weeks to get them from Germany. Believe it or not I can't remember the name - but if you are interested I will let you know.

Bought set of full size at RDS for €25 (Holmestead)
No specific brand name
I think they came in both Blue (which I bought) and green
They are excellent - good padding with velcro fasteners
Fit nicely and didn't slip at all on 1.5 hour journey!

I have checked the boots. They are Kavalkade.

Teegee they look amazing but a bit pricey for me - possibly will invest in them but need boots quickly for this Thurs.
I'm going to bandage him under the bucas boots if I can get them in the shop - they don't have that plastic lip at the bottom which might slip and annoy him and the three velco pieces look quick to get on and off.
Thanks everyone for the help :)

The velcro is really strong HS so they shouldn't slip too much. I forgot to tell you they are €100

Cool, thanks grand. Once I can get a pair quickly - and i'll go for large, if that's ispins size it should be OK. I like Teegees but can't wait a few weeks.

HS - if you can arrange a courier - you can borrow a set of ours to move him.

Just wanted to add, I can safely say these boots are macine washable. I stuck mine in yesterday and they came out all sparkly and not all bent up.

got Sandy a pair of woof wear ones last week in full size . Paid €75 but they are too small so I have rang woof wear about the sizing and they do a size called heavy hunter and they are longer so I have them on order with the tack shop . So I will let yous know if they fit her .
I really liked them as they have the hard shell at the bottom to protect the coronary band .

So far I think they look the part anyway .

i had them on a bit too loose on the way there so they slid down her legs a bit but were still above the point of her hock . tightened them up on the way back and they were perfect on her .
She did "christen " or dirty them by pooing on them on the way there which then ended up on my jods ( thanks sandy ) .
They did the trick much happier with them on the return journey . and will be giving them a wash before next weekend too so will let you know how they wash
