Been to Homestead, EDS & still cant get a rubber snaffle 5.5/6inch anyone got some suggestions?
Also looking for a 17/17.5 inch gp close contact saddle of some sort.
Budget around the €250ish mark. Not a fan of the older shaped saddles, something along the lines of Heritage or Santa Cruz kinda designs.
Homestead has one or two reasonable used saddles there but for their prices id be as well off buying a new saddle with leathers etc etc included
Anyone got any of the above or any suggestions?

You could try Goodwins in Mulhuddart for the bit but I can't imagine you getting a decent saddle for that price.

Never thought of them, thanks, a bit out of my way though, have they a website?
Been looking around and there are some decent enough ones about as private sales, not really in shops. I might pay a visit to Dublin tack and check them out.
Funds aren't the greatest so just wanting something i can use instead of barebacking it lol, with the hope of geting something better as the summer comes

You could also try TRI for the bit :)
€250 is a very small budget for a good secondhand saddle, but if you're willing to take a gamble you could always keep an eye on Ebay? :)

It looks like quite a deep seat and very high at the withers, although that could be from the fleecy thing under it.

Tis hard to judge but sure will get a look at it and see maybe. The horse is in the Laois area for a couple of weeks anyway so could size it on him

I thought it would be too wide (says its a med/wide fitting) for your horse - he looks narrow enough with high withers? but sure you won't know really til you look at it and try it :)

He's very under weight at the min which gives him the high withers in the pic so when he's rounded up and on weight it'l be perfect. I aint going to be doing much with him over the next few weeks until he builds up a bit in himself.
The guy feeding him told me he's not finishing his feed so not sure if its just the taste/different feed or cause he's not settling in yet will just have to keep an eye on him over the next few days

EJG yep, your horse will fill out in no time, he looks lovely, my horse didn't have a lot of muscle or weight either when I got him either but i'd to saddle him for the size he was, not the size he would become if you know what I mean. Narrow fitting saddles are hard to come by! Look out for barnsbys, there's a few second hand narrow ones around  The Raven is a model for high withered horses.

I have a loan of an old Berney saddle that fits him at the minute, suits him but not me, but for now, or when ill use it, ill compromise!

Those old berneys' saddles - my boyfriend has one that fits all his 17+ hunters, and it's the ONLY saddle that fits my tb-y horse perfectly too. it's bizarre! It seems to have great clearance. I've been through 7 saddles and settled on the one i have, the Barnsby (all were 2nd hand).
I think your fella is gorgeous! what are you thinking of for a name?!

7  I got a new Pessoa a few years ago & it was also very good for all shapes, had a well built ISH & a TB and it was great on both, only funds are a bit tighter for a Pessoa now!
No idea of a name yet, my boyfriend keeps calling him Rambo lol so that might just stick:nod:
