Im buying a couple of things from premier equine and want to get over reach boots (Ballistic No Turn Over Reach Bootshttp://www.premierequine.co.uk/acatalog/horse-boots.html ), im just confusted as to what size to get?

Ozzy is a 16.2hh ISH, would be a lightweight hunter so would you go for thoroughbred or warmblood for sizing (confused smiley)
Has anyone bought them and can remember what size they bought?

Sizes approx: Thoroughbred Warmblood
Medium 13.0-14.2hh 13.0-14.0hh
Large 14.2-16.2hh 14.1-15.1hh
Extra Large 16.3-17.2hh 15.2-16.3hh
XX Large 17.3-18.2hh 17.0-18.2hh
Colour: Black

Thanks

I think I went for XL;

At first I had large at the RDS but changed them 2 minutes later when I opened the packet; was only using them today but will check the size for certain tomorrow....

Oh right, dammit - I had a quick look at the site and ended up with 2 sets of brushing boots, over reach boots and a rug liner.

I blame you lot.

FD definitely get the XL! Ispin has L ones and they are snug enough on her, and she only has teeny legs and feet.

I bought the Ballistic No Turn Over Reach Boots for K last year but can't remember if I got XL or XXL
(although I *think* it was the XXL...I'll check tonight and let you know)!

Muchos gracias - just went for the biggest as S wears XL and they'd just about do it for him. My new problem? It doesn't fit into WoofWear Heavy Hunter size travel boots...might have to revert to bandaging!

(Oh, just had a thought - What boots do you use on King for travelling?)

OMG Druid...his legs must be massive!!!

I got K's travel boots in Lidl...they were only 19.99 at the time and have been well worth the money!

It's not the width, it's just the length from his hock to his hoof - if the shaped bit is on his hock then they don't reach down over his heels/hoof and if I pull them down the shaped bit is below his hock by a few inches. I have those lidl ones but the smaller size - can't deall with all the straps, I like those ones with just 3 bigger straps. Me? Fussy?

storm
07-01-2009, 10:15 AM
I have to admit D I would prefer the 3 big straps...mine have loads of
smaller straps and they are a bit of a pain but I'm used to them now!

Next purchase will be with three straps though

i have the lidl ones too they're OK but all the straps and a leggy hoss didn't work. He's liable to take a fit if there is one left and he decides he'll shake it off... I have to get them off before he decides he'll do it for me... and then it doesn't come off... cue massive horsey fit.

Have resorted to the 3 velcro ones works a treat.

I must do some flagging with him on his legs and feet to get him out of that habit.

haha, Mia does that too! with all her boots. if they're not taken off fast enough legs fly until the boot goes zooming across the yard! My boot putting on and taking off skills have seriously sped up in the past year, I'll tell ya that!

Yea but i've to really get that habit out of him, it's not on. I'm going to flag him with plastic bags. They day I tried to bandage him outdoors, oh my  He hopped sideways, i dropped the bandage, it rolled away like a big streamer attached to his leg. he went absolutely nuts nearly creamed me into the side of the box. He's fine if it's done in the stable, not fine in the box (he keeps swinging out his legs). But at a show i've to be very very very quick - he just goes super alert to the distance and seems to forget i'm there doing his boots, then suddenly remembers and gives a skip. Nightmare!

God HS - sounds like a bit of an operation!!!

yea, it's one of those things I learned to live with by getting very speedy but that is silly, i should get it out of him. i also think that with more travelling he'll get more accustomed to the routine of boots on/off... now that he loads!!!

does anyone else have to bandage? siog wrecked her old soft travelling boots after a few years so I spent money on a flash pair of shires ones. they were worn once for about ten minutes  she did not like them at all they are more rigid and leather reinforced unlike her old soft ones. So they are for sale now and I bandage her instead (have those gamgee shaped like the legs). Grey pony gets bandaged too she used to never wear anything at all but when I borrow her i would prefer she was bundled up! she wont wear boots either she doesnt seem to understand what they are as we never use boots on her for riding either

I used to have to bandage LMM, now do it on occasion by choice. Ispin was a madam, but the Bucas ones are fantastic. HS got them too I think!

Yep and i have to say best 100 euro spent they are absolutely fantastic, very robust and they stay up and on, they've three big velcro bits and the top bit has a bit of elastic so they go on nicely above the hock. Great buy.

Oh Ive given up trying to put boots on her she wont wear the shires one so I doubt bucas will get a better reception.
I could have bought her a cheap soft pair in lidl that would be like the old homestead ones she used to have but to be honest I think the bandages give the same protection! Have become a pro at rolling bandages and applying quickly

too big or too small HS???

Boots too small... Can just barely make the velcro reach across about 2 milimetres. No good.

They actually sent me the ballistic over reach boots by mistake, so i can send them back as it;s technically the wrong product. Then i'll have to ask to go up a size.. that wouldn't be a problem would it?

i'd imagine they'd exchange them even just for being the wrong size once they haven't been used?

I just emailed them, they were so nice. They said keep the ones I have as complimentary and they'll send me out the correct ones. How nice is that!

He goes through the rubber ones at a terrible rate, he over tracks so much that when hacking he clips himself.
