    Default hunter trials..

anyone know the dates for any midland (westmeath, offaly, meath, roscommon, galway, kildare even) hunter trials? do they usually start in feb or is it later that that?
Id love to give it a go this year. Also is prenovice open to everyone or just ponies? and how small is it?

Think they're around early march to start with. . . when the hunting is drawing to a close.
Prenovice is normally open to all, at Annaharvey they're normally 60cm or so (from what I remember)

Not all hunter trials have a pre-novice course, I know that the Ballymacads(Westmeath Country) have a pre-novice course but they call it novice and it's about 60cms.
When you go to heaven as all good huntsmen do,
There will be a pack of foxhounds waiting there for you,
St Peter will be kind enough to pause upon his rounds,
And listen for a moment to the music of the hounds"

My bad If I remember right, they're not all full 80cm though and makes for a good round

Annaharey is about 70 or less they say 80 but their course is smaller than others which means it could be a good starting point for you.
The secret of good horsewomanship is the ability to keep the horse between you and the ground at all times!

I haven't been to the course, but apparently the one in Carlanstown, where the Meaths had theirs last year is a nice course...apparently the novice is small enough, so it could be a good one to do too. The Ballymacads have theirs in Ballinlough, their novice would be a good one to get started too...they usually have theirs around/at Easter. I haven't been down to Clane since the first year I hunter trialled, but it's also a nice course for young/green horses, Bob led around it his second time out, and he's not the most confident, but he was perfectly happy to lead.

I've been to the one in Carlanstown and the novice would be a lovely first hunter trial. No complicated fences.

For the dates, the Irish Field usually does a list of all the dates around the end of January/start of February, so keep an eye out for that maybe...

Edenderry Harriers hold there's in Carbury, Co. Kildare at the beginning of April. The pre- novice is tiny and very pleasant but they only allowed pairs out on it last yr.
    No hoof, no horse!!!

Do you need to be a member of RC? I think we might be ready to try...

No Jedy - most HTs are run by the hunt and no memberships needed

East Galways HTs are in Flowerhill in Portumna on 30 March, is that near you? They have a Pre-Novice track too.

Annaharvey Pre-Novice is really small, 70cm and maybe 1 fence will be 80. It's very nice too. I hope to do the Novice track at both, let me know if you're going to either - I'm sure there'll be someone to go around in Pairs with you

Is that to me or Dani?
Neither is very close to me, but a drivable distance! I might be causing a bit of commotion and my partner wouldn't want to be faint hearted and not very competitive
I'll jump up to 90- 1m if fence not scary, but to ride positively forward 70-80 is max, but shouldn't be very hard. It's the ones that I'm scared of that might be a problem.

I'll be looking for a lead in the novices if anyone around the dublin/meath/louth area!!! Algie is coming on very nicely and we thought that we might do 2 hunter trials with him before we throw him out for a few months!
